I was raised in a joint family. My father was a government servant. He thought to fulfil his responsibilities before his retirement. That led to my marriage at an early age. In the year 1996, at the age of 19, I got married while still pursuing college. After finishing college, I thought of leading a housewife’s life just like any other soap opera bahus! But against my wishes, my in-laws kept pushing me to move from my comfort zone and find a suitable job. Although it wasn’t my cup of tea, but I had to listen to them. So I jumped in to become a working woman and started updating myself. I did computer and language courses and finally, picked up a job. I am grateful to my in-laws for that. Years later, for better prospects, my better half moved to Goa. Again, against my wish! I had to stay back with his parents in our hometown. I was supposed to take care of them, as I was not capable of getting a job at an English-speaking place! Everyone told me that won’t be able to adjust there. I took it as a challenge. Without letting them know, with my 10-year-old son, I reached Goa to my husband. After reaching, the very next day, I applied for a job. Simultaneously, to improve my spoken English language, I started visiting and spending time with my neighbors. Which was helpful. I got a part-time job in a children’s library. Gradually, step by step, I kept moving and achieved a respectable place amongst my family. Today they feel proud of me. I also feel good that I can help my family financially. All I can say, in our lives, people come as a guiding light. The only thing is it takes little time to understand their perspective and others take time to recognize everyone’s contributions. Also, situations can be blamed, not people. I have understood that we should keep stretching our boundaries to move out of our comfort zone and the outcome will be very rewarding and satisfying. In my journey, I feel connected with the philosophy of competency over competition which our Sunshine Worldwide school promotes. I did not compete with anyone but kept on improving myself and finally I am competent as an exemplary educator Every day I keep pushing my boundaries to do better than yesterday. Today, I feel privileged to be a part of the place where such philosophies are being talked about and practiced. I am truly grateful to all the people around me.
