The traditional streams are still possible, and students can also mix subjects across them. A NEET aspirant, for example, takes Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and is free to choose any Band 2 subject.

From 2026, CBSE holds Class 10 board examinations twice a year: a mandatory first examination and an optional second attempt to improve scores.
Internal assessment, completed during the year, also counts towards the final result.
