Environment

Sunshine Worldwide school leaves no stone unturned in providing the best quality education to learners. Our focus is on holistic development and to make sure that the learners become capable of facing the challenges in their day-to-day life. SWS, as an inclusive school, believes that every individual is unique and has a style of learning. Children have their strengths and weaknesses, and Sunshine guides them to work on their areas of improvement. It is a learner-centric school that focuses on academics as well as other curricular activities and puts a huge emphasis on bolstering individual strengths. The school also respects diversity of culture and tradition. This has a huge impact on the learners’ attitude in life. The Learning Environment at Sunshine supports this kind of learning through the whole day at school.

Transdisciplinary experience makes learning fun and enjoyable in the primary years. Art, Dance, Drama, Music classes are integrated with regular classes, and this sets in a better understanding of the concepts. We want our learners to have conceptual understanding so that their knowledge becomes life-relevant. In SWS, the educators across the school guide each other and work together for a common goal. The learning environment is cooperative, collaborative and caring.

Conducive learning environment at SWS is conducive. Here, the learners have opportunities to explore, make choices and ask questions. They are encouraged to speak and share their ideas. The school is committed to the core motto of education; that is, learning with real-life experiences. The teaching-learning methods are planned with multiple learning engagements and pre-planned hands-on activities. When learning transforms from application to concepts, learners get introduced to the real-life scenarios and thereafter derive the concepts.

The well-Being of the learning community is our topmost priority, for which we have a SEE Learning program that provides educators with resources to foster their social, emotional, and ethical intelligence. The educators also have sessions on personal wellbeing during the academic year. Meditation and prayer are an integral part of the teaching and learning process. Before the beginning of every class, we have a short 3 mins meditation to calm ourselves and increase our focus.

Going beyond textbooks

Sunshine believes in “going beyond textbooks”. This means, we have learning spaces and environment that is not just limited to textbooks. For primary year programs, there is “no textbook” concept being adapted. Learners learn from their surroundings, educators, peers and practical applicability of a concept. This gives the learners an opportunity to be creative thinkers and gives them time to ponder their thinking and gain a deeper understanding of what they are learning.

Learners are provided with primary resources and are exposed to various learning strategies. The core of our learning focuses on inquiry-based and skill-based learning. Learners are motivated to research and inquire by conducting surveys, field trips, nature walks, reading books, surfing the internet for more information. This teaches them grit and develops strong research skills. We also have guest speakers from different fields who share their knowledge through their expertise, which helps the learners make real-life connections.

Field trips and Guest speaker develops a sense of understanding in the learners that learning happens in a varied way and not just by using books as a resource. The environment also encourages the learners to conduct interviews with their peers, educators and support staff. The classroom environment also emphasizes group activities and presentations during the teaching and learning process.

Technology also plays a very important role during the process of learning.

No bell system, in Sunshine Worldwide School, believes in making every individual responsible. We do not have a bell after every class, rather the learners check the clock and transition from one class to the other.

Classrooms are learner centric; where learners get lot of space to move around, learn from peers and with the educator in an open and interactive session. The ratio of learner and educator, in a positive, skill-based environment, makes every day with new learning. We, at SWS, collaborate, respect and celebrate all cultures, and the primary focus is on process.

CBSE textbooks are all based on NCERT. The entrance exams like NEET, JEE MAINS, CUET etc. are uniformly based on the NCERT text books. The CBSE extends flexibility to students to pick subjects of their choice from a basket of as many as 211 subjects. The students can freely opt for subjects of their choice (except for a few pairs of similar subjects) as CBSE does not bind students in streams.
The revamped Bye-Laws provide opportunities to encourage Innovative schools in the field of skill development, sports, arts, science etc. The Board gives platform to its students to excel in sports at Cluster/ Zonal and National level every year.
