My journey to Becoming an Educator: Khushbu Shah

My journey to Becoming an Educator: A Story of Passion, Challenges, and Transformation
When I first embarked on my career with Indigo Airlines, I was filled with excitement. It felt like the right path—a respected job in the airline industry, the thrill of traveling, meeting new people. Yet, beneath the surface, there was a lingering emptiness. As the days turned into months, I couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was missing. The excitement that I thought would bring me happiness slowly faded, replaced by an inner void that no amount of work could fill. I found myself searching, not just for success, but for a purpose that would give me true joy and fulfilment.
A Hidden Passion Waiting to Be Discovered
What I didn’t realize at the time was that my real passion had been quietly growing inside me all along. Even as I juggled the responsibilities of my airline job, I found myself rushing home after work to tutor kids in my neighbourhood. Those few hours spent with the children were the highlight of my day. The way their eyes lit up when they understood something new, the bond we formed, and the joy of making a positive difference in their lives—it was a feeling like no other.
One night, as I was tutoring, my dad called me out of the blue. He didn’t say much, but his words hit me hard. He said, “Beta, if you’re not happy in what you’re doing, that’s not what you need to continue.” His advice echoed in my mind. That simple phone call became a pivotal moment for me.
I took a step back and reflected on what truly brought me joy. That it hit me I wanted to teach, to spend every day guiding young minds. It wasn’t about what society considered a “prestigious career” but about what made my heart truly happy.
Facing the Challenges of Change
But stepping away from my stable job at Indigo wasn’t easy. There were many doubts, and people around me questioned why I would leave a promising career for something so uncertain. Teaching isn’t always seen as glamorous, and the financial rewards can be modest compared to corporate jobs. I faced moments of self-doubt what if I wasn’t good enough? What if I couldn’t make the difference I dreamed of? But something deep within me pushed me forward. I knew I had to follow my heart, even if the path ahead was unknown.
A Life-Changing Opportunity at Sunshine Worldwide School
And then, one fine day, an opportunity knocked on my door an opportunity to work at Sunshine Worldwide School (SWS) 22nd March 2019. From the moment I stepped into this school, something inside me shifted. It felt right, like I had finally found where I belonged. Sunshine Worldwide School isn’t just a place to teach; it is a community, a family. Every corner of the school radiated positivity and growth.
The first year was tough. I was new, and while I had the passion, I still had so much to learn. But the learners welcomed me with open hearts, and I realized that teaching was not just about knowledge, but about building relationships, trust, and guiding them through their personal journeys. The support of my colleagues/friends and the inspiring leadership of Mr. Deepak Khaitan the Founder Director of SWS and Ms. Patricia, helped me grow in ways I had never imagined. Mr. Khaitan’s belief in me and his constant encouragement were the pillars that kept me going. He inspired me to embrace challenges, to think creatively, and to never stop learning. Ms. Patricia ma’am has always been my support system who has supported and encouraged me throughout my journey.
The Joy of Transformation
As I reflect on the five years I have spent at SWS, I am amazed at how much I have changed. From a person who was unsure and searching for happiness, I have become someone who is confident, skilled, and deeply fulfilled. I’ve learned that education is not just about teaching lessons it’s about inspiring, nurturing, and shaping future generations. The transformation I see in myself mirrors the growth I witness in my learners. Watching them evolve into confident, curious individuals fills me with pride and joy.
Gratitude and Purpose
Today, I stand proud as part of the SWS family, and I am forever grateful to Mr. Deepak Khaitan Sir and Ms. Patricia ma’am for their unwavering support. You have not only been a mentor but a constant source of inspiration, reminding me every day why I chose this path. I am blessed to have found my true calling and to be surrounded by people who share the same passion for education.
The challenges I faced along the way were many, but each one made me stronger. Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing. I am blessed to have supportive colleagues who have always uplifted me. My journey from an airline career to becoming an educator was filled with uncertainty, but it led me to a place where I found my true self. Being an educator is not just my job it’s my life’s greatest joy and the purpose I was always meant to fulfil.

Thank you
