“Don’t limit a child to your own learning, for he was born in another time.”

 Rabindranath Tagore

The field of education is going through a rapid change every day. Keeping pace with emerging technologies and changing times is a challenge that affects education industry at large. What may still act as a steady base for us is a well-defined philosophy and vision. When we understand why we are educating the next generation we become more productive. No matter how much the time changes, clarity of goal will always lead to something substantial.

Goal of Education

The primary goal of education is “to raise fully functional adults who can take care of themselves and make a positive contribution to society.” When it reaches to the next level it may touch the boundaries of aspirations and entrepreneurial mindset, but let’s keep it for the next blog and focus on:

Holistic Way of Education

Education is the instrument for social, economic and cultural change. For social and national integration, for increasing productively, education should be properly utilized. “The importance of education is not only in knowledge and skill, but it is to help us to live with others.” There are few beliefs that need to be inculcated to achieve this goal:

No competition

Competition is a false notion prevailing in the society. If we make children competitive they may fail, but if we make them competent they will grow. It’s important to understand that everyone is unique and if works on his own skill set can create a respectable position in the society.

“I can” approach

“If you think you can-you can, if you think you can’t-you can’t. And either way you are right!” Shiv Khera.

The quote very well explains the importance of belief system. We should educate them in a way that they start  believing in self and do not settle down for anything mediocre. To create leaders and stalwarts it is important     to develop fear free attitude that inspire and motivate them to dream big and strive for it.

Application of Knowledge is Important

Learners should understand that real life occupation needs application based mindset. Learning theory for the sake of grades won’t help for long. Educators’ on the other hand should make their class interactive and adopt experiential learning methods to promote application based learning.

Unconditional Happiness

No external factor is responsible for happiness, it lies within. We should induce the concept of “unconditional happiness” in learners to keep them functional and determined towards their goal. They should understand that success or failure is a part of the journey but either should not become overwhelming for the one striving for eternal knowledge.

Once learners start imbibing this philosophy they will create a generation of holistic scholars, who know “that each person finds identity, meaning, and purpose in life through connections to the community, to the natural world and   to humanitarian values such as compassion and peace.”
